Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, has promised to reconstruct the Onitsha main market, which has been adjudged as the largest in sub Sahara African.
Action Congress (AC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, has promised to reconstruct the Onitsha main market, which has been adjudged as the largest in sub Sahara African.
In a statement signed by his Campaign Director, Pat Anyaduba, Ngige said this while speaking with the traders after participating in the early morning prayers, adding that action would commence on the market if he wins.
Ngige said part of his development plans while in office was to provide all basic aminities for the market. He said, "this market has been a source of revenue for old and present Anambra State and has been the melting pot of commerce and industry in the South-east and Nigeria in general. When you look at the present Onitsha market, you will discover that a lot needs to be done to it a modern status.
"This is something we had planned to do and I want to assure you all that it would have better safety facilities, borehole, power supply and communication facilities. My administration shall partner with leaders of the market to acheive this plan." Earlier, over 3000 traders had taken over the Nkpor junction of the new parts market, new market road and old market road, waving brooms and urging him to go back to government house in Awka
